With Jennifer and Erick at Jennifer's house.
Okay, this movie was completely ridiculous. Still, I laughed out loud many times. It was pretty funny in spots. Completely preposterous at the same time.

Bridge to Terabithia 09/13/07
With Dawn, Jim, Macy, Lucky at my house.
This movie made me mad. There was absolutely no reason for that girl to die other than the writer couldn't think of anything to do with her. I heard such great things about it and I didn't like it AT ALL.

The Truth About Cats and Dogs 08/06/07
This is one of my favorite movies. I own the DVD (at least I think I do. It might have been on VHS and I’ve gotten rid of it. Damn. I’ll have to check) but when I saw it on cable last night, I had to watch.
I love Janene Garafolo. Uma Thurman was better in this movie than in any other I’ve seen her in - more a real person. So here’s the gist: Janene is a vet with a radio program and Uma is a model. They are neighbors. J’s character, Abby, sort of rescues Uma’s character, Noelle, from a bad boyfriend. The boyfriend breaks Abby’s violin bow. Noelle shows up at the radio station to bring a new one and rescues Abby herself. She Abby has issues with the fact that while she is smart, funny and successful, she doesn’t think she’s beautiful and so men don’t like her. Personally, I think men don’t like her because she doesn’t like her, but I think that’s the point of the movie.
In any event, sometime between the breaking of the violin bow and the replacing of it, a man calls in to Abby’s show with an errant, big ass dog. Hank. The man, Brian (played by Ben Chaplin since I’ve told you who everyone else is) is a photographer and the dog was a “prop.” Abby tells Brian how to manage a situation he’s having with Hank, and subsequently Brian decides to keep Hank. Or Hank decides to keep Brian, I’m not sure which. Brian wants to thank Abby so he invites her for a drink and she stands him up. He shows up at the station just as Noel is there to thank Abby herself and Abby convinces Noelle to impersonate her.
The hilarity ensues. Noelle and Abby both have a relationship with Brian: Abby over the phone and Noelle in person. Brian falls in love with Abby thinking that Noelle is Abby, but it’s her personality that he loves. I won’t give away the ending but all is well. The actual ending is kind of cute.
I love what appears to be a fairly genuine friendship between Abby and Noel. Well, besides the sharing a man bit.

The Simpsons 07/31/07
With Macy at The Rave.
I didn’t expect to like this. I was just being a Good Aunt and taking my niece to see a movie she wanted to see. Surprisingly, I liked it. There were things that were truly funny and I am not a Simpsons fan, so you don’t have to know the movie to get it. There are likely “inside jokes” that you’d get if you were a fan but you aren’t missing anything if you don’t.

The American President 08/05/07
Still sick. Still looking for something to occupy my mind between naps. Picked up the remote.
Checked my favorite channels: Style, HGTV, Bravo, TLC, Food Network. I did NOT want to watch hours upon hours of Bridezilla, Split Ends or Little People, Big World. Damn. No good cooking shows on either. I clicked my remote back to “All Channels” in search of a movie. And here was this one. One of my all time favorite movies. Yay!
I love Annette Benning’s character in this, as well as Michael Douglas’. I’m not a big MD fan, but he did a great President. Martin Sheen did a good job as Chief of Staff, too. I wish we had a real president who would do what was right and stop worrying so much about being elected. I love his “Why aren’t you a member of the ACLU?” speech. Damn.
I’m a sucker for romantic comedies. Even filled with straight people.

Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen 08/04/07
There I was. Home alone. Sick. On a Saturday. What was I going to do? I didn’t feel like going out anywhere. I didn’t feel like getting off the sofa. I didn’t even feel like talking on the telephone. I picked up the remote. And there it was: Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen. My niece wouldn’t go see it with me when it was at the theater, my then-girlfriend either. (There is more than one reason she is my ex.) So I watched.
Can I just say that I love Lindsay Lohan? I seriously do. This movie cracked me up.
I was a Teenage Drama Queen who morphed into a Twenty-Something Drama Queen and continued on to be a Thirty-Something Drama Queen. Okay, so the drama changes as you get older and there is less lying about whether your father died and how to … well, dramatics, but you get the idea. Now that I am in my 40s, I’m still dramatic but I think not a Drama Queen. More the Queen Mum, now. Leaving the true drama to the young ‘uns.
